Tobin Horton is a seasoned litigator with extensive courtroom experience. Throughout his career, Tobin has practiced primarily in the area of insurance and is considered a pragmatic, client-focused industry leader. Whether it is a catastrophic accident or a modest contractual dispute, he has the necessary skills to help his clients achieve the desired results.
A keen eye for detail and a deep understanding of the complexities of the law have helped build Tobin’s no-nonsense reputation. In 2022, he was recognized as a Certified Specialist in Civil Litigation by the Law Society of Ontario. Providing sound advice as a trusted advisor is a role that he does not take lightly, and he is regularly retained to act for domestic and international insurers, as well as self-insured entities.
Tobin appreciates that not all battles are won in the courtroom, and not all clients have an appetite to leave the matters in the hands of a judge or jury. Accordingly, he ensures he brings a nuanced approach to his client’s needs, and his experience and standing in the industry helps him maintain a favourable negotiation position in legal disputes.
Tobin graduated from the law school at University of Ottawa in 2009 and was called to the Ontario Bar in 2010. In response to frequent requests to act as counsel on matters outside of Ontario, he became a member of the Law Society of Alberta in 2019, and the Law Society of Nunavut in 2021.
In his spare time, Tobin enjoys spending time with his family, and is a passionate fan of the Virginia Tech Hokies. He has developed a thick-skin through refereeing in the Canadian Football League (CFL) and can be seen at stadiums around the country wearing #78.
